The book of 1 Samuel provides the most systematic teaching in the Old Testament about the phenomenon of superstition. Samuel Hebich was a missionary whose labors were greatly blessed in India. Realizing the great need of the 'white heathen', as he termed them, he spent much time visiting the garrisons, and many British officers and soldiers were led to the Lord through his ministry. Chapter Basel Mission opened its stations in Western Russia Gold Coast in West Africa followed by China, Latin America and Borneo etc. As India was governed by the British Government and as the main aim of the British Government was trade, it did not encourage any social work, evangelistic work or any agency other than trade.
Basel mission sent three missionaries to India in and the trio - John Christopher Lehner, Christoph Leoward Grener and Samuel Hebich who landed in Calicut on Octo , reached.
